Pupils from Royd really enjoyed taking part in World Book Day. From looking at the photos you can see that they participated in a range of activities linked to a book. World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. The mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income. We want to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.

Today in Nursery the children have been celebrating world book day. The focus of our day was around the story ‘Zog‘ by Julia Donaldson. The children enjoyed listening to and acting out the story of Zog especially whilst they were dressed in some fantastic costumes! Each child has had fun making their very own puppet dragon using a range of colours and creating some interesting patterns on the dragon’s scales! They made a large castle for Princess Pearl out of a range of materials and loved working together to stick it together carefully. The children’s imagination was fabulous, with some children pretending to be doctors, helping their friends and teachers too! It has been lovely to see the children so excited today and of course looking wonderful in their costumes!
