This half term in the 2-year provision our topic has been ‘Why do spiders eat flies?’
The children have enjoyed accessing various activities around our provision such as, using tweezers to catch the spiders in the web, and then counting them. Then matching the quantity with the numbers on the spiders.
The children have enjoyed using sticks and playdough to make webs for the spiders.
In the craft area we made hand printed spiders which were very messy!!
During outdoor play the children have enjoyed playing with pretend spiders in the water tray and washing them away down the drain pipes, whilst singing “Incy Wincy Spider”.
We then looked for real spiders and their webs and found lots of mini beasts hiding under logs and in dark corners.
We then went on a mini beast hunt and then made a bug hotel with the natural materials that we found outside.
