Every year Key Stage 1 children participate in the Royd World Cup. Year 1 and Year 2 children are divided into teams from around the world and then they play against each other in football matches. In each group there are approximately 6 teams so they end up playing 5 football matches. This year we followed the same format but due to “bubbles” in school the Year 1s played against each other and the Year 2s played against each other. We asked the children what they enjoyed about participating in the Royd World Cup and here were some of their answers:
“It is fun because we get to play with our friends.”
“Exercise is good for you because it makes you healthy.”
“I haven’t played in a football team before so I really liked that.”
“It was the best afternoon ever!”
