During Spring 2 our topic has been ‘Are eggs alive?’ where we have learnt all about spring, animals that hatch from eggs and the life-cycle of a hen. The children in class 2 were very excited when we had a delivery of some eggs! We learnt that the eggs were kept in an incubator to keep them warm. They really enjoyed watching the chicks begin to hatch and learnt that it is called ‘pipping’ when the chicks use their beaks to break the shell from inside. Once the chicks had hatched, the children enjoyed watching them grow and handling them too!
