This half term in the 2-year provision our topic has been ‘Why do leaves go crispy?’

The children have enjoyed accessing the different leaves outside. We looked at the different colours of the leaves and how they have changed colour from green to brown, orange and yellow.

The children really enjoyed throwing the leaves in the air and watching them float down to the ground. The children developed their fine and gross motor skills by running, jumping, rolling, throwing and carefully picking up the leaves.

In the craft area we used the dried-up leaves that had been collected from outside to stick them onto our hedgehogs. Also, the children use a pom-pom to print the orange, yellow and brown paint onto their leaf template.

Our shared read story for the first few weeks has been ‘Owl Babies’. The story reassures the children that our grown-ups always come back.
